Perfect Your Cleanse
If treating clients has taught me anything, it is that their skin is not being properly cleansed at home. Not only is the epidermis not able to breathe properly, but the efficacy of the active products being applied afterwards is being compromised. By implementing a thorough cleansing routine, you can be sure to set yourself up for success!

Arguably one of the most important steps in your skincare routine, perfecting your cleanse will help prepare your skin for the highly-active treatment steps that follow. Follow these tips to learn more about how to cleanse properly:
Tip #1 - Your manual technique matters!
You may or may not have thought of this, but the way in which you cleanse your skin matters. Often enough we cleanse our skin by massaging in large circles, which, over time, can drag and pull the skin down. Next time you cleanse, try working your products in by gently lifting upwards. If you're in the habit of doing circles or prefer a deeper cleanse, use your fingertips to work in smaller circles.
Tip #2 - Pre-cleanse to remove dirt, oil & makeup
Whether it's morning or evening, pre-cleansing the skin is crucial. Using a micellar water in the morning will help remove any dirt or oil built up throughout the night from sleeping, sweating or your pillow. In the evening, completely remove makeup with a cream or balm designed to break down the level of coverage you wear during the day.
Recommended products:
-Biologique Recherche Eau Micellaire Biosensible for sensitive skin
-Environ Pre-Cleanse Oil layered on top with Claytech Hydrating Masque as a micro-exfoliant
-Valmont Wonder Falls or Icy Falls
Tip #3 - Cleanse with an appropriate cleanser
When selecting a cleanser, be mindful of your skin's needs. As with all other products, your friend's favorite cleanser may not be the best cleanser for you. When your skin is on the dryer side, select a hydrating or vitamin-enriched milky cleanser. For tolerant or oily skin, a foam or gel may be more suitable. Acne-prone skin can benefit from cleansers with added active ingredients such as salicylic acid or tea tree. Consult with your esthetician for the best possible recommendation.

Tip #4 - Incorporate massage and enjoy the experience
Oftentimes cleansing feels more like a chore than an enjoyable experience. Use this time to incorporate massage into your cleanse to increase blood circulation and stimulate the facial muscles. Selecting a cleanser that has a consistency that provides a positive sensory experience makes your routine feel like a morning or evening ritual you can indulge in.
Tip #5 - Keep a few cleansers on hand
One of my favorite things to do is select the products I will be using for my morning or evening skincare routine. Sometimes I feel as though I need something brightening, more exfoliating, or hydrating. I always have a couple options to choose from just in case I want to switch up my routine. Keeping a few cleansers on hand breaks up the monotony of doing the same thing every morning and evening. When you set the tone for your skincare regimen to be a fun and luxurious with different textures, you are generally more committed to the rest of the process.
